Power with
“Power with” is shared power that grows out of collaboration and relationship. It is built on respect, safety, mutual support, solidarity, deep listening, empowerment and collaborative decision making. Power with can help build bridges within groups and across gender, culture and class differences. Rather than oppression, manipulation and control, power with leads to collective action, healing and transformation.
Power within
“Power within” relates to a person’s sense of being-ness, self-worth, responsibility and self-knowledge; it includes an ability to recognize individual differences while remembering and respecting the value of the self and others (we are all one, and part of the whole. We all matter). Power within involves an open-hearted authenticity, truth and intrinsic valuing and acceptance of all aspects of the self with compassionate non-judgement.
As facilitators we seek to create safety for a collective power enriched by the vulnerable perspectives of multiple experiences. Together our energy and knowledge is magnified through a sense of belonging, inclusion and mutual respect.
